How to block stolen mobile phone

Have you lost your mobile phone? Are you not able to search your lost mobile phone? Now it is possible to block the lost mobile phone so that the person who stole it cannot use it. This is possible with IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identification).

Each and every mobile handset is assigned with a unique IMEI number and no two mobile handsets share the same IMEI number. It is possible to find out the IMEI number of your mobile number by typing "#06#" on your mobile. As this number is unique, it is possible to find out the stolen mobile handset. You can note down this IMEI number of your mobile hand set.

When ever you switch on your mobile hand set, the SIM card tries to connect with the available network. Once it finds a supported network, it will try to build a network connection between your handset and the nearest tower. During this process, the mobile SIM card transfers some information to the network operator which includes your IMEI number, the model of the handset etc. So the mobile operator keeps the record of your handset IMEI number every time you switch on your mobile number.

So if you have lost your mobile handset, you can contact your network provider and ask them to block your IMEI number. They may ask you to get a police FIR copy first. You can do so and ask them to block your IMEI number. The mobile network providers use a shared hosting service for blocking IMEI numbers. Which means if you have asked Airtel Network to block your mobile handset, it automatically gets blocked by network VodaFone, Reliance, Idea and so on.

Now if the person who stole your mobile handset tries to switch it on, no service provider will allow it to build any connection with them. Even if he changes his SIM card, the new SIM card requests for service with the IMEI number and blocked IMEI number will be ignored and the mobile handset will become useless.

If you know some body from any mobile network, you can ask them to find out the mobile number that is being used by your handset with the help of IMEI number.
You can take the help of mobile number tracker to find out the location of the mobile in India.

How does Speed Dialling in a mobile work?

Hope all of you may be knowing about speed dialling in a mobile phone? With the help of speed dialling, you need not dial the full mobile number but it is sufficient to dial the short number like 1,2, or 3 to dial frequently used mobile numbers. Speed Dialing is very simple and it is often a little different with phones from different manufacturers.

To speed dial with most of the phones is to just hold down the number for some time. For example if the speed dial number is "6", then you need to just hold down the "7" on your key pad. If the speed dial number is "20" then push "2" and then hold down the "0".

some manufacturers assign the speed dial numbers automatically when you save the contact ( for ex. Motorola). With some manufacturers you need to assign the speed dial number manually to your saved contact ( LG and Nokia work in this way).

On your LG mobile phone, you hit the "Menu" and then "Contacts", then "speed dials". Then the "Speed Dials" screen comes up. Move down to the speed dial number that you want to assign to your contact and click OK. Your contact will now be assigned to that speed dial number.
